Rant: Guide dogs

Since I was 16, I have volunteered with weekend workshops for parents of blind children and I've made a lot of friends who are visually impaired as well. I have many of those friends on my facebook and I often read posts about funny things or issues that they deal with because of being blind. It's quite frustrating to me as someone who knows a lot of people who are blind and works with people who are blind to have other sighted people think that guide dogs are the solution to being able to get around safely. It's a huge commitment for the owner of the dog (not all people like dogs too). Some people just prefer to use the cane anyways. Also, in order for someone to get a guide dog, they have to be able to get around with a cane WELL, so if they have trouble with a cane, a dog won't fix it because they wouldn't be able to get a dog...

Another Rant

Dear she who shall not be named,
Just because you had a baby 26 years ago, does not mean you know more than I do about the way the body works. There are TONS of new research and discoveries as well as the INTERNET for those of us nowadays to learn from. Try tell me that you know more about how things work again because "you're OLDER" and I will unleash my hormones on you. Oh, any BY THE WAY... you're WRONG anyways.
Sincerely,
Allyssa

Rant

Dear world,
Just because someone is pregnant and nearing her due date does NOT mean that her vagina is an appropriate topic of conversation... If you wouldn't talk about her vagina while not pregnant, don't talk about it while she's pregnant.
Sincerely,
Allyssa

Justice!

I reported a semi truck driver who was on his cell phone today. It's illegal and he was driving in a truck so I remembered the truck number, time and place and called in. The lady answering the phone sounded very frustrated and said that they take that very seriously.

Sick, tired and hormonal

Just about cried over a message that I got from a group asking me to take a post down. The message was overly formal from someone I'd talked to before and gave no reason as to why I need to take it down when I just posted it for the benefit of other moms who according to most, might actually use them...

Also a deals site that I WILL NOT MENTION (because I'm mad at them) posted a teaser yesterday afternoon about an item that they might be selling at some point apparently in the FAR FAR future. I'm irritated beyond belief that they haven't posted it yet because I want to freaking KNOW what it is!!!!! They keep telling people "patience is a virtue" and I'm thinking "srs guys? just freaking tell us!!!" I'm so irritated I'm thinking of not checking out their site for days. I'll be able to go back and see what it was after the fact but the fact that they have me hanging onto every status update on facebook hoping that they're telling us what it is, is pissing me off.

Captchas

Or however they're spelled...

I hate them. I don't understand why people use them. I can understand approving comments or if you've had spam, putting them up, but they're just irritating. I've accidentally closed my tab after posting and forgot to write the captcha... blah

P.S. Alex, you're awesome. I loved the captchas as potential baby names post! That makes them fun. Everytime I write one, I think about you haha.

Thought it was done

I know this is my third post for the day but I don't like to clump.

With my evaluation last week came questions as to why these things happened and comments as to how I thought it was unfair.

I was TOTALLY dumped on. No one took the time to give me a heads up earlier in the year so I got dumped on about all the things I've been doing badly on this year, right in the last two weeks.

My hours got cut from 80% to 50% and I feel like I'm on probation. I'm pretty sure I am. However, it's the principal who apparently decided my work assignment for me next year.

I've got a dilemma now because I'm not satisfied with my hours and the explanations given to me, but it's hard to approach him with this now because his wife just passed away yesterday from cancer and he's not around. I would never approach him in person with all that I know he's got going on but I know I need to take it to him now.

I've decided that if I need to keep my personal life outside of work by putting on a happy face no matter what's going on with me, then I need to realize that, pain or not, I have to take this to him because it's part of his job as well.

I'm going to take time to draft an email to him and email it when the timing feels appropriate so he can take his time getting back to me. I just can't go through a whole year filled with resentment and regret because I didn't follow though.

Bad moment or bad day?

Yeah I'm gonna say that this bad moment made my whole day bad.

I get the dreaded evaluation tomorrow morning at work. I requested that it be moved to next year given the stress that this year has put on me and the fact that I know I'm not at my best. I got an email this morning stating that it's out of their control and that it will have to be tomorrow. My mom brought home my paper evaluation.

I just didn't expect my evaluation to be this bad. I expected some understanding from my bosses who know everything that I've been through this year with my grandpa and dog dying, my miscarriage and the extremely tough situation with one of the students I work with.

I got one E for exceeding, a few M's for meeting, and a ton of I's for needing improvement. I was evaluated my first year and it was almost the polar opposite of this year. I think I only had one I, and the rest were split like 50/50 between E and M.

Let's see how the meeting goes tomorrow. I'm not impressed. I feel betrayed, disrespected and that there was a lack of professionalism (sending it home with my mom).
